Elevated in the countryside

Every journey begins with a single step. For these owners they described taking their first step about 6 years prior to undertaking the leap of faith to design-build. It became a dream to build their own home after living in an old draughty villa for years.
After a few false starts, including looking at the opportunity of moving out of Auckland, they seized the opportunity to purchase a section in the small town of Matakana.

At 135sqm, this immaculately designed, split level home is the perfect size for a couple. The lounge provides uninterrupted views, enabled by large bi-fold windows at one end. There is a playful mix of materials, such as the plywood used in the kitchen and the splash of red with the pyroclassic wood burner. This adds a warmth and cosiness, to a build that the owners have turned into a haven.

The design and build team at Box enjoyed the challenge of working on this moderately steep site. A few years later and the owners have enhanced the design through their efforts planting and landscaping so that the house now integrates perfectly with its site.
